J.D. Power recently released the results of its annual U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), ranking Genesis first among premium automakers in 2022. The survey found that all models in the Genesis lineup scored above the segment average, with the critically lauded G80 executive sedan earning its second consecutive Best Upper Midsize Premium Car Genesis award. Genesis reclaimed the top spot after a second-place finish in last year's study. The manufacturer had previously ranked number-one among premium brands in all years since the debut of its first vehicles in the U.S. (the G80 and G90) from 2017 to 2020.
Since the mid-70s, J.D. Power has been surveying new-car buyers about their experiences in the initial stages of ownership and ranking manufacturers by the number of customer-reported problems per one hundred vehicles (PP100) in the first 90 days. IQS results are a valuable resource for both consumers and automakers, providing an impartial comparison of the industry's many automakers and how their customers view the new-car experience.
"At Genesis, our products are designed and engineered with careful consideration for the needs of our customers," said Omar Rivera, Hyundai Motor America's Executive Director of Quality and Service Engineering. "We pursue excellence in everything we do, and we are pleased that consumers surveyed in the United States continue to respond positively to the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of our latest models."
